Rhode Island Learning and Development Office: Academies



The Department of Administration is pleased to announce the launch of the Rhode Island Learning and Development Office. The mission of this new office is to create a culture of continual learning and improvement to promote professional development opportunities for State employees that enhance capacity, maximize efficiency and to support organizational goals.

What is an Academy?

Academies are programs of study or training in a special area, such as management, leadership development, customer service or communications. 

Programs are specifically designed as a planned sequence of instruction with clear learning outcomes and opportunities for classroom participation. Each Academy has a designated target audience, learning objectives and course curriculum.

New academies run each month and we have recently completed sessions of the Communication Academy, Customer Service Academy, Government Innovation Academy,  Leadership Academy and Manager Academy.

Steps to Register:

  1. Email completed registration form to Melissa.Day@hr.ri.gov.  Seating is limited for each academy and your registration/payment saves your seat in the class.

Q: How do I register?
A. Send the completed academy registration form to: Office of Learning and Development (Melissa Day), One Capitol Hill, Providence, RI 02908 or email it to Melissa.Day@hr.ri.gov.

Q: How much does each Academy cost?
A. Participants must pay a $100 non-refundable registration fee. Payments can be made by check or journal entry from your agency.

Q: Can I receive incentive credit if I complete the Academy?
A. Yes. Eligible employees may earn 0.5 credits. All incentive rules apply and completed CS365 forms must be received in advance.
